WiFi 6E / 6 GHz band on Proximus Internet Box+ Not Available

Hallo,

I recently got a Proximus Internet Box+ with a Flex+ Giga Fiber subscription. From Experience the future of Wi-Fi at home | Proximus and Proximus, first Belgian operator to launch Wi-Fi 6E | Proximus , this implies I should get WiFi 6E and use the 6GHz band. In my internet box settings I an see that the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz are enabled. My phone, a OnePlus 13, is compatible with the 6 GHz band, but I cannot detect it on my phone.

How can I get the 6 GHz band to work? Using a Wifi Analyzer app I can’t see any 6 GHz bands available on my router even though the router settings say it is enabled.

Kind regards,

Daanish

I tried this, but no luck when I restart the router (Proximus Internet box+). I see in other forums people talking about resetting the ‘ONT’ - I’m not sure what this stands for, but I guess it is the small box connected via ethernet to the router, and via optical fibre to the building

On my phone I also see a number 6 in the symbol, but the 6 GHz band uses WiFi 6E. WiFi 6 is only the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands

ONT = your fibermodem

Anyway

I do not see how an ONT reset could solve any such issue, a reset of your internetbox+ maybe can

I do suggest to wait a reaction of a Proximus moderator on this public forum

WiFi 6E normally would have become available on internetbox+ in jan/feb 2025 period (for new and existing customers)

Ah, thank for you explaining what the ONT is. I have the Multi Gigabit V2 modem.

Ok, I will wait for a proximus moderator, thanks for your suggestions in any case. I’ll try resetting the box a second time later today and see if it makes a difference.

@DaanishS
that's why I think that maybe the 6E will appear in the wifi symbol then, once it has been rolled out by Proximus.
Anyway, we'll see what the Proximus moderators can tell us about this.

@DaanishS Wifi 6E is activated on your modem. You can find more info about Wifi6E and why it can be difficult to connect here

Hi @HadewychT ,

Thanks for the reply and the link with the information, but this doesn’t really solve my problem. WiFi 6E is enabled on my modem, and my device is compatible with WiFi 6E so I see no reason why I cannot connect.

Furthermore, I don’t believe it’s simply a case of not being able to connect. From the Google Play Store, I used the app ‘WiFi Analyzer’ to show all nearby WiFi access points. In this app, it detects the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands from my modem, and others in my building, but shows nothing on the 6GHz band. This implies that the modem isn’t even operating at the 6 GHz band, as I would expect an access point to be detected even if I can’t connect to it.

Would you have any further advice?

Thanks

I don't know which wifi analyzer app you have installed, but are you sure it supports Wifi6E?

@Martin

The app I am using is this one: WiFi Analyzer - Apps on Google Play.

Indeed it does support 6E, please see the screenshots below from the WiFi Analyzer app for networks it can detect on each band. I also have attached a screenshot of my device information which shows it supports WiFi up to 7 (which includes 6E), and the 6GHz band. My phone is a OnePlus 13.

Ok, we will have to wait for a response from a Proximus moderator, they can also pass it on to the responsible department/person for further explanation.

@DaanishS We looked further in your settings and this is indeed not active in the right way. We ‘re not able to correct this at this time and are investigating why. I’ll keep you posted.

Hello, a small update:

Just now, my internet seemed to get very slow, and then after a few minutes come back to working. When I check with the WiFi analyser app I can see there is a 6ghz band now on my phone, but I can't connect to it still. I am still on 2.4 / 5 GHz. In my router settings I see that there has been a small change: the security type on the 3 bands has changed. now, 2.4 and 5ghz are WPA3 transition, but 6ghz does not have “transition” in the name. Previously it was the other way around.

So the first step is solved - my router is using the 6ghz band, and now the second step is to actually get my device to connect. Any suggestions?

Thanks
